Active Addiction Vs. Active Recovery

When I was in active addiction, the entire universe revolved around me. At least in my mind… LOL… I was selfish and self-centered to the extreme and never thought of other people before myself. EVER. In every facet of my life.

One of the things that I have learned in active recovery is if I’m thinking about other people first, I am more at peace and always seem to get taken care of. Don’t get me wrong, there are things that I love to do on a personal level for myself. But the reality is it’s much more healthy for me after starting the day to be grateful for my sobriety and then think about being of service to someone besides myself. Doing the right thing is definitely not always convenient, but in the long run, I’m able to lay my head on my pillow with a clean conscience and know that I’m at least making an effort to be the best version of myself. Like always, it’s progress, not perfection.
